Organization: Little Bit of Progress & My Plan

A few weeks ago, I talked about organization and how I was trying to be more organized. I feel like I'm making some progress, though it is kind of slow going. I thought I'd share with you what I have done so far (though it's such a small amount, it borderlines embarrassing).

Here is what I got for our living room area to organize all the miscellaneous toys and books. I love these cubical shelving things, whatever you call them! What makes them great is that they look nice, like a piece of furniture. It keeps our living room looking much classier than it would if we had used some plastic storage unit. Not that there is anything wrong with the plastic ones, they have their place, just not in my living room. And, as you can see, we now have another horizontal surface in our house to get all cluttered up....I'll get right on that! ;o) Oh, and don't mind all the other clutter next to the shelf, that's from my Costco trip I made this week. It just *happened* to still be there when I took the picture.

Speaking of Costco...my pantry has been driving me crazy! We all know how important pantries are after you get home from Costco. Mine was WAY overdue for a remodel! It's really not hard to organize the pantry, it just takes some dedicated time and space. Time and space that is limited with two young children. But, I desperately needed the space, so I went ahead and cleared out the two middle shelves. It was a start and I already feel better. I organized just the one shelf that you can see here. I got the plastic drawer at Target this week to house all of the many pasta and rice packages that are impossible to keep from making a big sloppy mess on the shelf. SO much better! Not sure why it took me so long to do that.

And here is the rest of the pantry...pretty bad, huh?

So, "My Plan" is to organize at least one area in my house each week. I will blog each week about what I accomplished to help keep me accountable. This is how I can stay on top of getting things in order. Sometimes it may be a small area and hopefully more often than not it will be a larger area. But, the idea is to have a way to consistently make progress while not overwhelming myself if I don't have the same amount of time or resources every week.

Isn't this is a terribly exciting blog post?! This is just me and a peek into my life...or a corner of it :o)

I like the one-area-per-week idea. AND the plastic drawer in the pantry. I might have to get some of those.
